In the image, taken in 2003, you can see a distorted yellow spiral galaxy possibly affected by a collision, a blue galaxy teeming with star births, and several smaller red-toned galaxies. There is also a prominent blue arc in the center, which, despite appearing peculiar, is an optical illusion caused by the gravitational lensing of a distant red elliptical galaxy.
The Hubble was launched in 1990, operated by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). Since then, it has been providing sharp images and crucial scientific data to researchers, contributing to our understanding of the universe.
A galactic jumble! 🌀
Many galaxies shine in this #HubbleClassic image – including a blue arc above the red galaxy at center, caused by gravitational lensing.
